First Freeze Advisory for El Paso

Monday, November 12, 2012 - 9:26am

The cold weather has definitely blanketed The Borderland so much so the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning.

The NWS says the freeze warning began at 11 PM on Sunday throughout the region. Although some areas have already experienced freezing temperatures, this is the first freeze of the season in the El Paso Metro area.

FEMA says if your pipes freeze remove any insulation or layers of newspapers and wrap pipes in rags. Open all your faucets then pour hot water over the pipes over where they were most exposed to the cold.

When you must go outside, experts advise wearing several layers of loose fitting, lightweight, warm clothing rather than one heavy layer.

Mittens help keep your hands warmer versus gloves and wearing a hat will prevent loss of body heat.

The freeze warning should be lifted at 8 AM on Monday morning.
