God bless those kids. The military Chain of command has failed. Shame on the commander and First Sergeant for allowing this to go on for so long. Chains of command have a responsibility to check on the well being of their Soldiers. They should have known the indicators that were clearly present for past at least 18 months.

I hope the kids are ok. This is another failure of this Soldier's chain of command. The families' house had horrible living conditions. Who from the chain of command visited and found this acceptable? That's what leaders do - they check on their Soldiers. Think back to the August 2009 epic fail at Fort Bliss when a Soldier hung himself in the barracks and the chain of command did not find him for three weeks - same thing - unconcerned chains of command and Soldiers and families suffer.
