An army of 1,000 firefighters are on the front lines of a massive wildfire in Southern California.

The so called "Silver Fire" broke out Wednesday afternoon, exploding out of control and prompting hundreds of evacuations.

Westerly winds and extremely dry conditions are fueling the raging inferno.

Tthe fire was moving at such a fast pace that residents only had minutes to escape the flames.

Already more than 10-thousand acres have been consumed and 15 structures destroyed.

So far, containment is at 10% and officials are fearful the fire will continue to spread towards other communities.
