EPPD: Man arrested for DWI after spotted driving 121 MPH on I-10

A 23-year-old El Paso man was arrested overnight after officers with the El Paso Police Department's DWI Task Force Spotted him going 121 MPH on I-10.

Derek Herrera was spotted driving his 2009 BMW east on I-10 between McRae and Yarbrough exits around 1:34 a.m. Thursday morning. The posted speed limit for this stretch of I-10 is 60 MPH. Herrera was later determined to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest for DWI.

Herrera was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

The El Paso Police Department also reported initiating seven DWI related traffic stops in in less than two hours overnight Thursday morning. The first DWI stop was as 12:09 a.m. and the last in that same time period was at 2:05 a.m. Five people were charged with DWI, one with 3rd or more and one with a DWI blood alcohol level above .15%.
