El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso Police have identified the 2-year-old boy that died in a Lower Valley El Paso church parking lot Sunday afternoon as Jacob Caro.
EPPD says that 72-year-old Anselmo Gomez was dropping people off at the front of the Vino Nuevo church, located at 988 Kessler just after noon Sunday, when 2-year-old Jacob Caro ran into the path of Gomez' 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe and fell to the ground.
According to police, Gomez could not see the toddler on the ground, and he ran over Caro. The toddler was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say that Gomez stayed on the scene and full cooperated with officials during their investigation. They do not believe speed or alcohol are factors in this crash.
Oscar Arrieta, a spokesperson for Vino Nuevo, said this is the first time anything like this has happened.
"The family of Vino Nuevo is heartbroken over what happened but the Church has decided to have no comment out of respect for the victim,' Nuevo said.
He also said the church is always cautious of pedestrians in the parking lot.
"We have a large amount of staff directing traffic and we have 2 police officers directing traffic," he said.
