EPISD Board accepts James Anderson's resignation

The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools James Anderson late Tuesday night.

The board went into executive session after the open board meeting and emerged after 11p.m. with the decision.

Anderson was given notice of proposed termination in January.  He was named in the district's external forensic audit report prepared by the Weaver firm.

According to the audit, Anderson was aware of the cheating at Bowie High School as early as 2010.
The scandal included bumping up or holding back students in an effort to keep them from taking the state mandated TAKS tests.

Board President Isela Castañon Williams said that during executive session, the board instructed Interim Superintendent Vernon Butler to accept Anderson's resignation.

"All we can say is that we authorized the Superintendent to accept his resignation, and that will become effective June 30," said Castañon Williams.
