The city of El Paso may be the first metropolitan city in the nation to team up with a school district to provide shared trusted Wi-Fi connection.
El Paso ISD still has to conduct a cost-benefit analysis, map out all connectivity, and says they are moving as fast as they can.

The Wi-Fi connection will use existing servers to lower costs.

"Initially we want to have wi-fi on a lot of devices at the school. So that's going to require a lot of internet capability and that's why a lot of the project is going to include a failover to use the data center that the city and county have so that's during the day. Second of all, then, we'd use this citywide wifi for kids to have that at home,” Superintendent Juan Cabrera said.

EPISD is also working with local internet providers to provide inexpensive access to families in need.
