The number of adult Americans holding down a job is still near a 30-year-low. About 58-point-6 percent of the population over age 16 had a job as of April, that's according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The last time it was this low was in 1983. Analysts say the so-called "employment rate" - a ratio of employment to adult population -- is unlikely to improve any time soon.

The U.S. adult population grows by about 200-thousand people each month and-in the last 12 months, the economy has added an average of 173-thousand jobs monthly.
