El Pasoans will soon see their electric bills go up. El Paso City Council Tuesday approved a petition from El Paso Electric Company to increase its fuel factor charge, which is the cost of fuel used to generate electricity.

Currently, the company said fuel costs are exceeding the amount collected through its fee.

The average customer will now pay an additional $1.65 a month.

The company said if natural gas drops in price in the future, the fee would be adjusted and El Pasoans could actually see a decrease in their bills.
