EL PASO — EL PASO (KTSM) — It's a bug party at the El Paso Zoo as workers prepare for their 12th annual Bug Awareness Weekend Aug. 3 and 4.
The Zoo will display live bugs from around the world including a Mombassa Golden Starburst Tarantula, an Indian Ornamental Tarantula, a Giant Sand Scorpion and many more. Bugs will be displayed throughout the Zoo in the Discovery Centers.
“We are displaying bugs that we have never displayed before. We’re excited to let our visitors see bugs from Asia, Africa and the Americas that they can’t see on a regular basis. These bugs are really cool!” said Heather Rivera, Zoo Education Specialist.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes on until 3 p.m. Families will also enjoy bug cooking demonstration and tastings by the Zoo’s Chef from 11a.m – 1 p.m., arts & crafts activities, presentations from local experts, a Bug Crawl around Africa led by giant-sized bugs and much more.
Zoo employees said the first 1,000 kids each day will receive a Passport for autographs from giant bugs, favorite presenters and Zoo Keepers.
Bug Awareness Weekend is supported by the Junior League of El Paso.
