El Paso Zoo launches new mobile app

Wednesday, August 21, 2013 - 11:27am

The El Paso Zoo hopes their new mobile app will help save the lives of orangutans, elephants, and their habitat.

The app will be launched Thursday, and will help consumers in the United States find out what products contain palm oil so that they can make an informed decision.

The production of palm oil production is currently killing orangutans, elephants and other endangered animals around the world, according to the El Paso Zoo.

About 50 percent of the goods we use every day including food products, cosmetics and detergents, contain palm oil.

Palm oil has the highest yield of any oil crop and is the cheapest vegetable oil to produce and refine.

The Palm Guide Oil Guide & Scanner app will help raise awareness and get more attention to this expanding global threat.

Although the Mobile App will only be available on iTunes on August 22, a version for android users will be available very soon.

To download the app, go to apple.palmoilapp.com.
