El Paso, TX (KDBC) — While people in the Philippines are dealing with recovery efforts, emergency response teams here in El Paso are making sure they're prepared to deal with a disaster here at home.
The Texas State Guard and the El Paso chapter of the American Red Cross teamed up Saturday for disaster relief training. Red Cross volunteers are often the first to offer help and set up shelters at disaster sites. And if the disaster is large enough, the governor will call in the Texas State Guard to help with relief efforts,
"El Paso doesn't get a lot of floods, but when they do, there's going to be a need to make sure that we can run a facility for those people in need. We go out and help establish places for residents who have been displaced in that emergency to have a place to stay and be safe," said MAJ Bill Roll with the Texas State Guard.
Both the Red Cross and the Texas State Guard say they're in need of volunteers
