El Paso Police officer holiday shopping safety tips

Black Friday is typically the beginning of the holiday shopping season, and while many shoppers might be concerned about finding the best deals, El Paso police are advising shoppers to also remember to stay safe.

Police warn that burglars and thieves will also be out looking to take advantage of distracted shoppers.

Whether it is inside of a crowded department store, or in the parking lot, there are some tips to keep in mind.

  • Always keep your children close to you.
  • Do not shop alone.
  • Never take more money than you need to make your purchases.
  • Do not flash your money when paying for items Pay with a check card or credit card.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Do not leave any purchases or purses unattended.
  • Do not overburden yourself with packages.
  • Carry your purse close to your body
