El Paso native Lieutenant Junior Grade William Brown McIlvaine III was killed in a plane crash in Eastern Washington Monday.
The 24-year-old was one of three Naval officers killed in the EA-6B Prowler jet crash, which was assigned to the Electronic Attack Squadron129 at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash.
Navy officials said in a release, "The aircraft crashed Monday morning in an unpopulated area approximately 50 miles west of Spokane, Washington."
The other officers killed in the plane crash are: Lieutenant Junior Grade Valerie C. Delaney of Maryland and Lieutenant Commander Alan A. Patterson of Tennessee.
Navy officials said that the plane was conducting a routine training flight prior to the crash. A safety investigation is underway to determine the cause.
