El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — An El Paso man was killed Wednesday morning in an oil field explosion near the New Mexico border.
It happened near the small town of Orla, Texas, which is about 40 miles north of Pecos, and 60 miles south of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The Loving County Sheriff says two people were killed and nine others were injured.
The explosion was reportedly caused by a build up of pressure that happened as workers were conducting a flow test through a well head.
Witnesses told the Loving County Sheriff the explosion shattered windshields and deployed airbags in vehicles parked nearby.
The El Paso man's name has not been released, but we do know he was 41 years-old. The other person killed was from Artesia, New Mexico.
