El Paso City Council votes “No” to free parking downtown during baseball games

El Paso City Council considered extending the hours of free metered parking downtown during game days, but Tuesday the idea was denied.

City officials said the funds from metered parking are used to help pay off the plaza theatre renovation debt. They said taking that away would force the city to look into other revenue streams.

Currently, drivers have to pay 25 cents for every 20 minutes to park at metered spots downtown from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
