UTEP's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is asking for El Pasoans' help in stamping out hunger. All Conference USA schools will be participating in the 2011 SAAC Hunger Drive in an effort to provide famine relief across the league.
Fans are asked to bring non-perishable items to any of the following upcoming UTEP home athletic events:
- Soccer versus Colorado College on Oct. 28 (7 p.m.)
- Volleyball versus Rice on Oct. 28 (7 p.m.)
- Football versus Southern Miss on Oct. 29 (6 p.m.)
- Volleyball versus Houston on Oct. 30 (Noon)
Fans can gain free admittance to the Oct. 28 soccer game by bringing two non-perishable items. They can also get in free to the volleyball match on Oct. 28 by bringing two non-perishable items or a bag of rice, and to the volleyball match on Oct. 30 by bringing two non-perishable items.
Collection bins will be set up at the entrances to University Field, Memorial Gym and the Sun Bowl on game day. In addition, all proceeds from the sale of "50/50" raffle tickets at the football game will be donated to the SAAC Hunger Drive relief fund. Tickets will be sold at the North entrance to the Sun Bowl Stadium next to the Larry K. Durham Center.
UTEP student-athletes will also be out in the community the week of Oct. 24 "Trick or Treating" and asking fans to donate non-perishable items.
Food can also be dropped off during regular business hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at the Larry K. Durham Center's Life Skills Lab from Monday, Oct. 24 through Monday, Oct. 31.
All food collected will be donated to the West Texas Food Bank.
