UTEP Grant to Aid Border Issues

EL PASO — UTEP has earned a 250-thousand dollar grant to conduct research for the Borderland.

The money will will help the El Paso/Santa Teresa-Chihuahua border master plan. Thje intent is improve bi-national planning, financing, technology and risk management involved with the soon-to-be constructed ports of entry in the region.

The plan will also look into information sharing between the U.S. and Mexico for law enforcement to better evaluate and search for hazardous cargo on cars or people.

The grant comes from the Texas Department of Transportation through the University of Texas at Austin.
