EL PASO - Staff Sergeant Roberto Loeza died May 25th while serving his country.  Enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire.

He'd been in the military almost ten years.  Next month would have been his anniversary.

Today family, friends, and fellow soldiers honored Sergeant Loeza's life and the sacrifice both he and his family made for the United States.

Sergeant Loeza leaves behind a wife and two children.  His wife was at the ceremony today, but his two young children were not.  Major General Dana Pittard says, understandably, they were too distraught to go.

"It doesn't end here they're part of the army family," Major General Dana Pittard said.  "We'll always be there for them."

Sergeant Loeza's viewing will be tomorrow at Crestview Funeral Home with a vigil at 7 p-m.
His funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday...at Saint Michael Chapel Number 2 in Fort Bliss.
