Thursday, June 10: Siji Shibazz has been here before. The 24 year old boxer nearly qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, being named an alternate to the U.S. Boxing Team as a Light Heavyweight. These days, Shibazz has his eyes on a spot on the Olympic team, and that climb begins this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shibazz will compete in the U.S. Open Regional Tournament, winners of their division advance to Nationals. This tournament has a twist for Shibazz, he will move up a weight class and compete in the Heavyweight division, though he would be giving up at least 15 pounds to his opponents. "I am feeling great, I am feeling excited. I am working hard every day, trying to get that weight on, I'm eating a lot now, and in the gym lifting weights. I would never lift weights before, and now I am pumping iron trying to put that weight on."
