MOBILE, Ala.-- An early morning fuel spill closed a shipping channel in Mobile Thursday morning.

A tank rupture spilled an estimated 275,000 gallons of heavy petroleum from a barge.

Officials do not know how much ended up in the river.

Containment equipment was set up to capture the oil.

The shipping channel was closed during the operation, leaving two docked ships to remain at the port.
