Play Suspended at NCAA Golf Regional

Thursday, May 19, 2011 - 8:03pm

The New Mexico State men’s golf team opened play at the 2011 NCAA Central Regional Thursday morning but were unable to complete the round due to weather conditions. The Aggies are currently in 12th at 7-over par with two players still out on the course.

“It was cold all day long but didn’t start raining until about an hour before play was suspended,” head coach Scott Lieberwirth said. “That’s when we took a nose drive. It seemed like it was raining bogies out there and the Aggies were grabbing all of them that we could. The top teams in this tournament are doing all the small things right and we can allowing those mistakes to hurt us.”

Freshman Collin Pratt, sophomore Justin Shin and junior Zachery Fullerton all finished their rounds. Pratt finished 1-over par, 73, recording five birdies in the round. Shin and Fullerton each carded rounds of 4-over par, 76.

Senior Tim Madigan is currently at even par with two holes to play, while junior Gaston De La Torre is 1-over par with one hole to finish.

The first round will be completed Friday morning then will resume with the second round at the 7,758‐yard, par‐72 Colorado National Golf Club.

Oklahoma State currently leads the tournament at 12-under par.
