Indianapolis, Indiana-- Need to add more time to your meter? There could soon be an app for that.
A new smartphone app could make it easier to pay for meter parking -- for the lucky people in one area of Indianapolis.
Starting Sept. 6, Parkmobile's Pay-by-Phone app will allow drivers to pay for the exact amount of time they park. Not only that, but it will also allow people to add more meter time -- no matter where the driver is -- and the app will send you a text message 15 minutes before your parking time expires.
"It's really a paradigm shift for consumers to really think that they can pay with their phone and not put coins or credit cards in the meter and walk away with that the feeling that they've paid," said Michael Sanocki, the Vice President of Operations Parkmobile. "But the enforcement agency that rights the tickets has the back office capability via the web to identify that you've paid for that."
The app will charge $0.25 for each transaction. The app works on coin meters, new meters, plus pay boxes for parking zones.
