Miners Looking for the Next Paydirt Pete

Friday, April 1, 2011 - 5:19pm

UTEP is looking for athletic men and women for next year’s cheer team. New members will have the opportunity to cheer for football and basketball, travel to numerous away games, make public appearances, and compete at the national level.

The UTEP Cheerleading program is considered one of the top collegiate programs in the nation.

Girls should have some cheerleading and/or gymnastics background. Previous experience is not required for guys; most of our guys come from high school sports such as football and wrestling.

We are also looking for enthusiastic members for Team Pete. These members would be a part of a nationally renowned mascot program. Paydirt Pete was the 1st runner-up in last year’s Capital One Mascot Challenge.

If you are interested please visit their website at ica.utep.edu/cheer for all the details and for a copy of the tryout packet. If you need further information you can call Coach David Vasquez at 915-747-5046 or by email at vasdavid@utep.edu . Tryouts are April 30th and practices start with a clinic on April 19th.
