Man Wanted For Allegedly Lunging Knife at Wife

LAS CRUCES, NM — A Las Cruces man accused of threatening his wife with a knife is on the run, and investigators with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department are hoping the public can help locate him.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Edgar Cardoza, 36, was reportedly in an argument with his wife at their home on S. Main Street when he grabbed their infant son, retrieved a knife from the kitchen and allegedly lunged at her with it, lodging the knife in the wall above the victim’s head.

Cardoza fled the house with both of the couple’s children, ages 10 months and two years.
The victim was able to run to a neighbor’s house for help, and called police. Cardoza reportedly dropped the children off a short time later with a relative. Both were unharmed.

Cardoza, who is originally from Mexico, weighs approximately 150 pounds and is described as five feet, nine inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery, interference with communications and intentional child abuse.
