Discovering Dirty Jobs in the Sun City
Wednesday, June 6, 2012 - 6:00pm
EL PASO - Down in the West Texas town of El Paso... a man has become king of a certain kind of throne by answering the call of dooty.
"They get it against the walls and they get it up on the rim of it. I don't know if they don't use the seat of what, but they miss," said Tavo Alvarado.
Alvarado began working for Sarabia's Portable Jons and Blue Sanitation as a service technician two years ago... and he says business keeps "piling up."
"I get all sorts of stuff out of this thing," said Alvarado.
Alvarado describes his job as a "crapshoot" because he never knows what he'll find when he arrives on scene to clean... which sometimes really pees him off... but never leaves him down in the dumps.
"I guess they don't act like that at home so it kind of surprises you that they do here. You get beer bottles and all that out of them," said Alvarado.
Alvarado says as a service technician... "urine" trouble when you stumble upon... a tip-over.
"If it falls sideways or backwards, it's not bad because everything stays in, but when they come forward everything comes out. That's when it's really bad," said Alvarado.
Good thing this isn't smellivision... but Alvarado says the stench smells like money to him.
"It's not really that bad. I mean, I guess after a while you get used to it. My kids smell it on me, but I don't smell it. I think I smell alright," said Alvarado.
Becoming number one in the number two business one jon at a time.
