EL PASO - A woman shot in juarez will see clearly again, thanks to a local non-profit organization.
We first told you about her in April, when she asked us to shield her identity.
She said she was shot in Juarez after failing to pay extortion money.
During the attack, the bullet entered her neck and exited close to her right eye.
Her vision before surgery was like seeing through muddy water, said Doctor Paul Gulbas, who led the surgery, and implanted a new lens in her eye successfully.
"If she gets back 90 percent of her vision, I'll feel very satisfied. She should be able to return to full activity in a mont," said Dr. Gulbas.
Gulbas performed the surgery free of charge, after being contacted by Operation Hope's Angel Gomez, whose aim is to help anyone in need.
"There is nothing like giving back to the community or anybody, as long as you can help somebody somehow. It makes you feel good and it makes them feel good," said Gomez.
Meanwhile, the woman continues to seek political asylum in the U.S.
