The El Paso Diablos have added two experienced veteran players to join the roster. The Diablos acquired ex-major leaguer Enrique Cruz in a trade with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, as well as AAA veteran Jimmy Rohan coming in as a free agent.
The 6-1, 205 lbs former major league infielder began his career in1998 when he was signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent. Cruz began his career with the Rookie affiliate of the Mets, the GCL Mets of the Gulf Coast League and the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League. In 2000 and 2001, Cruz spent time with the A-level Columbia Mets before moving up to the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League in 2002 before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers from the Mets in the rule 5 draft. Cruz made his big league debut on April 2, 2003 with the Milwaukee Brewers and played 60 games for the Brewers during the season compiling six hits, including one double, four walks, two RBIs, and six runs scored in 71 at-bats. In November 2006, he signed as a free agent with the Cincinnati Reds and played in one game before he was again granted free agency in 2007. In May of 2008, he was signed by the Atlanta Braves and played for the Triple-A Richmond Braves before being granted free agency in November of 2008. Cruz began playing independent baseball with the Edmonton Capitals of the North American League in 2010-11.
Jimmy Rohan begins his first season in El Paso and fourth season in independent ball in 2012 after spending time with the Calgary Vipers of the North American League in 2011 and the Organ County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League in 2009-2010. The 6-1, 190 lbs infielder from Valencia, CA, began his career in 2002 with the Rookie affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2005, Rohan rose as high as Triple A with the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League.
