Early Voter Turnout Down from 2008

Early voting numbers are down in El Paso from four years ago after just one day of voting. 9,465 people showed up at the polls Monday. That's down from 2008, when 10,813 people turned out to vote on day one of early voting. It is more voters than in 2004 when 8,983 people cast ballots.

Overall, more than 137 million americans voted in the 2008 presidential election, the highest voter turnout rate in a century. El Paso Elections Commissiner Javier Chacon expects strong turnout this year because of the presidential race and the city's proposed two percent motel tax to pay for the new baseball stadium
