DOÑA ANA COUNTY, NM (KDBC) — A multi-agency operation nets 22 arrest in Doña Ana County Wednesday morning.
The operation cracked down on alleged drug traffickers and woke residents out of bed. It was centered in Anthony, New Mexico for the felony distribution of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana.
The FBI said the different agencies had been monitoring the suspects since January. During the investigation, agents bought various amounts of drugs through undercover buyers and even used wire taps as part of their work. Wednesday afternoon the FBI and assisting law enforcement say about a hundred agents arrested 29 people, recovered about 20 weapons, three kilos of cocaine valued at $75 thousand dollars and 2 cars.
"Throughout the investigation whether it was the sharing of evidence conducting undercover drug buys or executing search warrants we worked seamlessly with one another to achieve a common goal to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking in Southern New Mexico," said Terry Wade, Assistant Special Agent in Charge.
According to criminal complaints, the suspects would arrange purchases with undercover buyers at area grocery stores and restaurants. The records showed at times they would suspect they were being watched and even confronted drivers they felt were suspicious. Five of those targeted still remain at large. The FBI said no injuries were reported during the operation.
