A 43-year-old man from Las Cruces who was accused of stealing tools from a residence where he was working with a landscaping crew.

Donald A. Looney, Jr., flagged down a Las Cruces Police officer in the 1300 block of S. Solano at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning and advised the officer that he wanted to turn himself in on fourth-degree larceny charges that were filed by Dona Ana County Sheriff's investigators last week.

According to court documents, Looney's supervisor, who was hired to work at the house in the 4200 block of Escondido said that Looney allegedly tried to sell him a bag of tools on January 17th after the pair had left the home they were working at for the day.

The next day, a mechanic who also works at the property, advised the foreman that his tools had been stolen the previous day. The tools described matched those that Looney was reportedly trying to sell.

Looney was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
