LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Dona Ana County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved an extreme drought ordinance for the unincorporated areas of the county Tuesday morning.
The ordinance will be in effect for 30 days banning open burning and restricting fireworks.
The extreme drought declaration allows the county to change those restrictions if weather conditions improve within the next 30 days.
The City of Las Cruces has already passed a similar ordinance.
