Firefighters are investigating what caused a house fire in the Lower Valley.

Crews responded to Wilcox and Winslow, near Hawkins, around 6:15 p.m.

Officials say smoke was coming from the home.

It took them almost 30 minutes to contain the fire, which officials say started in the kitchen.

A 70-year-old woman inside suffered minor burns to her hands.

Firefighters couldn't rescue a dog inside and it died.

There were $50,000 in damages.
