A 53-year-old man was killed after he was struck while trying to cross Doniphan near Hillside just before 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

El Paso Police confirm that Matthrew Gurule, 52, of Jarales, NM was killed after he was struck by a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup driven by 71-year-old Milton Ellis of El Paso.

Police say that Ellis was driving his GMC truck northbound on Doniphan at approximately 8:29 p.m., when Gurule, who was also walking northbound, attempted to run across Doniphan in the path of Ellis' truck.

Gurule was hit by the truck and died at the scene.

Police say that alcohol or speed are not factors on behalf of Ellis, but they do suspect that alcohol and not crossing a crosswalk are suspected factors on behalf of Gurule.

This is the 11th traffic fatality of 2014.

I feel bad for what had happened. People should really be careful and we really can't tell when will be our time.
