"Everyone thinks that when someone is killed, it's for something bad and that's not true. There are also innocent people that die. My son is one of them," Guadalupe said.
Guadalupe Ramirez is a mother of three National Guardsmen.
Now, one of her soldiers, Jose Gil Hernandez, is dead after being shot in Juarez on Wednesday.
"It can happen at any hour in Juarez. It doesn't have to be at night. My son was killed mid-day," Guadalupe said.
The 22 year-old, who'd been with the National Guard for three years, was shot in front of his family's second home in Juarez.
Guadalupe says he walked outside because he thought someone had crashed into his car.
Jose Hernandez' brother, also a soldier, is saddened to think of the tragic truth in Juarez that every death is just part of the brutal statistics.
"It's just going to be another crime in Juarez. It's been over 4000 in the last two years.To them it's just another statistic, nothing else," Rogelio said.
Now, just days after his brother's murder Rogelio talks about what Jose's life could have been.
"He was planning to go to school, he was planning to buy a house, he had a lot of plans," Rogelio said.
Plans that he'll never get the chance to complete.
Rogelio says that he and his brothers had something big in common.
"We want to make a change. We want to do something for not only the country but our family. I believe every person that met him it really changed their lives," Rogelio said.
Rogelio says that he knows his brother is his guardian angel.
"I truly believe so, because he was an angel," Rogelio said.
And Guadalupe says she will continue to be grateful for the time she shared with her youngest son, Jose.
"I just want to thank God for the angel he let me borrow," Guadalupe said.
