EL PASO - U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspect dozens of bouquets of Valentine's Day flowers and oftentimes deem them unsafe.
Agriculture specialists have been looking through flowers and other plants for weeks leading up to this weekend's romantic holiday. They check to make sure the plants don't carry diseases or pests and are brought into the U.S.
CBP officers seized 68,025 suspicious plants and seized 243 materials carrying pests during fiscal year 2010. Officers don't allow chrysanthemums, gladiolas, and choisya from Mexico because they're known to carry pests.
