Police say heightened awareness of violence in the Borderland is contributing to a drop in crime rates.
Overall crime rates around this time of year have dipped by about 1% this year compared to last. Police have said they can attribute that decline to people being more aware of their surroundings with recent spillover violence.
Here is a breakdown of how far individual crimes have dropped city-wide:
-Murders are down 71%
-Vehicle burglaries are down 20%
-Vehicle thefts are down 12%
