Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — Dona Ana County clerk Lynn Ellins is donating more than $2,000 to a coalition that supports same sex marriage.
When Ellins began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples in August, he was sued by a group of Republican legislators.
The case was ultimately dismissed, but not before Ellins raised $33,000 for his legal defense. More than $31,000 was spent defending the lawsuit, but Ellins is now donating the remaining balance to the New Mexico Unites for Marriage Coaltion, which backed Ellins in his fight.
