Teague, TX (KTSM) — Travis Kirchner, who was convicted in 2011 of the murder of his mother, Patricia Kirchner in 2011. Kirchner was found dead in his jail cell in Teague, TX early Sunday morning.
A spokesman with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirms that Kirchner was found hanging from a towel hook in his cell at 4:30 a.m. When Kirchner was found, guards began life-saving measures immediately. Kirchner was pronounced dead at 6 a.m. by the Justice of the Peace who responded to the scene.
Kirchner, who was the co-owner of the Poki Roni Ranch was found guilty in October 2011 of the death of his 81-year-old mother. EMS found Patricia Kirchner's body next to a yellow PT Cruiser in the garage of the family's property in September 2008. Kirchner's defense in the case was that it was a case of assisted suicide.
Jurors found Kirchner guilty of murder and sentenced Kirchner to 29 years in prison for his role in his mother's death.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice will refer the case to the Office of the Inspector General to make a final determination in Travis Kirchner's death.
