Roswell, NM (KDBC) — Plans to open a horse slaughterhouse near Roswell, New Mexico are once again on hold.
The U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals approved an emergency injunction yesterday to stop the plant from opening as early as this week.
This comes just days after a federal judge in Albuquerque threw out a lawsuit by the Humane Society of the United States.
Several high ranking officials, including Governor Susanna Martinez and New Mexico Attorney General Gary King have spoken out against he plant.
Its owners say they will have armed guards on the property, if they're given a green light to finally open.
