Controversial Film, "Bully" Out on Limited Release

Friday, March 30, 2012 - 10:31am

The documentary film "Bully" opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday.

The film shows the impact of school bullying on kids who are traumatized by it in a way we've never seen.

The filmmaker had incredible access to children during unfiltered moments. The documentary has to do with the graphic and offensive language that's part of the story.

The film opens with a father who lost his son to suicide.

"Some kids had told him to go hang himself. That he was worthless. I think he got to the point where enough was enough," said David Long.

"I still think he's gonna come through that door, but i know he's not," he said.

After losing an appeal for a PG-13, producers took the unusual step of releasing it without a rating. That leaves it up to individual theaters to decide whether to let kids in.

"Bully" will be released in more cities next month.
