EL PASO, Texas (KDBC) — County commissioners proposed the highest tax rate possible Monday.
The rollback tax, the highest rate the County can propose without going to the voters for approval, would be nearly $.49 per $100 of appraised home value.
On a $100,000 home, that would mean nearly $486 a year in taxes.
That's $52 more than what the same homeowner paid this year.
Public hearings are set for Sept. 8 and 15th.
A final tax rate will be set no later than Sept. 22nd, which commissioners expect to see it lower.
A final vote is expected Oct. 3., after the fiscal year begins.
