The El Paso Department of Transportation (EPDot) is now urging citizens to plan ahead and expect delays on Opening Day for the El Paso Chihuahuas, April 28, 2014.

The gates at Southwest University Park will open at 5:00 p.m. on April 28th, two full hours before the start of the game at 7:05 p.m. EPDot wants to encourage El Pasoans to avoid major traffic congestion by taking advantage of the early opening of ballpark gates and arriving downtown at least two hours before the game starts.

The City of El Paso will be using the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) highway digital message boards near downtown to help direct the traffic to downtown for the game. The city provided a map of preferred routes (attached below) along with parking garage locations around the ballpark.

The city is also providing Park + Ride SunMetro routes on opening day for those who prefer to use the safe bet of public transportation to ease congestion in and around the ballpark. For those who are interested in making their opening day experience an all-afternoon event, the city also encourages citizens to patronize one of the many downtown businesses before or after the game.
