City Responds to Chamizal Residents' Complaints

Tuesday, March 27, 2012 - 9:30pm

EL PASO - Tonight, we're getting the city's side of the story, after Chamizal residents accused the city of ignoring their neighborhood.

Over the weekend, residents of the Chamizal barrio held signs in front of the abandoned Saint Anne's Center on South Piedras. They accused the city of ignoring their calls to tend to abandoned buildings, overgrown weeks and bad roads.

However, a city worker said that's not true, and that the city is paying attention to the area.

"We're moving along with the process. In these tough economic times...we wish we could be farther along, but there are a lot of good things that are happening right now in the neighborhood, and that have happened,” said Mark Weber, with Neighborhood Services.

That district is represented by Cortney Niland.
