EL PASO — The city of El Paso owns both the City Hall building and the Insights Science Museum--but only while they're standing.
As part of the contract with the demolition company that's bringing both buildings down, the city has forfeited any claim to wiring, scrap metal, copper, faucet heads, or anything of possible value.
Instead of dealing with the rubble by selling any salvage, the city offered it upfront to the winning contractor. City engineer Alan Shubert told us today he is confident the winning bid came in lower than usual, since the contractor now gains value by selling items themselves.
