EL PASO- EL PASO- Today was the last day to file as a candidate for the upcoming city-wide elections on May 14th.

23 candidates in four different districts will be running for El Paso City Council come Election Day. Some names on the list will probably be familiar, as the upcoming spring election looks to be very competitive.

Starting in district one, Representative Ann Morgan Lilly's term is up, opening up her seat. She will be running for re-election against the following:

Manuel J. Hinojosa
Timothy A. Besco
Abraham Peinado
Lyda A. Ness-Garcia
Richard Jay Schecter
Theresa Ann Ware - Asbury

Next up is district five. City Rep Rachel Quintana will not seek re-election to this seat, with many speculating it has to do with her upcoming forgery trial.

Competing for her seat will be:

Maria D. "Mayela" Mejia
Omar Macias
Michiel R. Noe
Sonia R. Brown
George Goodwin Atkins
Phillip Gabriel Garcia

District six comes next. With Representative Eddie Holguin's term coming to an end, he will seek re-election to his current seat. Only two candidates filed against him:

Zulema Lazarin
Jose Gerardo Rosiles

And finally, district eight. Representative Beto O'Rourke is calling it quits, opening up the competition to fill his spot among the following people:

Jorge Artalejo
Cortney Carlisle Niland
Ernesto Villanueva Jr.
Sergio L. Contreras
Malcolm McGregor III
Lisa Elena Turner
Gilbert Guillen

Typically, a field this large will thin out a bit, with certain candidates dropping out. but as of now all are eligible, and will be on voter ballots in May.
