El Paso, TX — Tania Chozet officially announces her candidacy for a seat on City Council.
She will run for the District 7 seat, now that its vacant because Steve Ortega is running for mayor. You might recognize her,she was appointed by County Judge Veronica Escobar to fill the position of former Commissioner Willie Gandara Jr., who resigned after being indicted on federal drug-trafficking charges last year .
Saturday she made her announcement in front of family, friends, and supporters. Chozet says growing up in the Lower Valley, specifically District 7 makes her the best choice for the position.
"Gives me a unique understanding of the values that exist here and I also think the fact that I lived outside of El Paso for 16 years really gave me the opportunity to experience what other cities have and to bring those ideas back to El Paso," said Chozet.
She left El Paso for Yale University, worked as a software consultant in Virginia and California, graduated from law school, then worked as an advocate on immigration policy and homeless rights in California, Arizona and New Mexico.
