El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — For more than 20 years El Pasoans have come together to support the YWCA's annual women's luncheon event, and this year is no exception..
This year's guest speaker is Nely Galán, dubbed the "tropical tycoon" by the New York Times Magazine. She is one of the entertainment industry's savviest firebrand talents. A first generation immigrant and self-made media mogul, Galán was the first Latina president of a U.S. television network (Telemundo).
The Luncheon will be held on Thursday April 17th, 2013 at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center from 11:30am until 1:00pm. Now in its 21st year, the Women's Luncheon has become a signature community event. Over the years, support for the event has grown and now more than 2,200 people attend annually. All monies raised help support programs that invest in women and children, strengthen families in transition, build the community, and develop leadership activities in women and girls while helping them reach their full potential.
YWCA board president Rebecca Krasne joined us on Newschannel 9 at 6:30 Friday night with a preview.
