Carrier Pigeon Found Trying To Fly Into Colombia Prison With Drugs Strapped To Its Back

Tuesday, January 18, 2011 - 7:36pm

BUCARAMANGA, COLOMBIA— Carrier pigeons are now being used for a whole 'nother drug, and police say its a new high in criminal creativity.

Colombian police have seized a pigeon carrying that was being used by prison inmates to transport drugs. The pigeon was seized about a block from the prison after the bird was trying to make his entrance into the facility with almost two ounces of marijuana strapped to its back.

The drug made the bird too heavy to fly over the fence at the prison. Police said this was not the first time pigeons were used by prisoners. In the past, police have caught pigeons trying to fly mobile SIM cards to inmates.
