School scandals are rocking more than just the El Paso Independent School District. Thursday night, in a special meeting, Canutillo Independent School Distrcit met to discuss an evaluation of their superintendent.
Dr. Damon Murphy was evaluated on August 16th, 2012. Dr. Murphy has been accused of participating in El Paso Independent School District's cheating scandal in 2008. Murphy was assistant superintendent then. He's accused of sending email telling school officials to keep transfer students in the ninth grade no matter their learning level.
For more than an hour and a half Thursday night, CISD'S school board met privately, in executive session to review superintendent Dr. Murphy's annual evaluation.
7:37, that's what time the public session started.
It ended 35 seconds later.
The public session is the part where, according to the agenda, the board should hold "discussion and possible action regarding the annual evaluation of the superintendent".
"The process is conducted according to policy and once completed will be shared with Dr. Murphy." said CISD board president Laure Searls.
Not many were in attendance, but the ones who were, support Murphy.
"What happened at EPISD happened up there," said Canutillo resident Art Gallegos. "I believe he is leading us in the right direction".
The board said, they're taking into consideration what happened at EPISD.
"they did mention the El Paso School District and the allegations that had been raised, but they're moving forward in the best interest of the school distrcit here in Canutillo," said Canutillo PIO, Gustavo Reveles.
